Matsuyama castle is located in the ceter of the city and sits 132 meters high, on top of Katsuyama hills. Over 400 years ago, it was built by a famous samurai, Yoshiaki Kato. You can climb up the hill by either a cable car or a chair lift. Off to the side on the hill, unnoticed by passerbyers are framed photos of Masaoka Shiki and famous writers. Clibming a bit there is a granite block, calligraphed a Shiki's haiku. On the foot of the main tower building of the castle you will find a splended view of cherry blossoms in spring time.
